Fillmore Unified School District Fall 2020 Return to School Survey

fillmore-unified-school-district-b.png

PURPOSE OF THIS SURVEY: Today you will be completing a survey about the reopening of Fillmore Unified schools. As we plan for the start of the 2020-2021 school year, please know that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families is our highest priority. As parents and guardians of district students your opinions are important. This survey is voluntary and there are no right or wrong answers to these questions. All responses provided are for informational and planning purposes.

Fillmore Unified is working directly with the Ventura County Office of Education and Ventura County Public Health (VCPH) regarding reopening plans for Fall 2020. Our district and all Ventura County school districts must ensure the following guidelines are in place in order to safely reopen:
• Promote Healthy Hygiene Practices
• Plans for Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Ventilation
• Plans for Physical Distancing Inside and Outside the Classroom
• Employee and Staff Education
• Family Education
• Screening Procedure for Staff, Students, and Visitors
• Surveillance (plan for monitoring attendance verifying absences, and notifying VCPH)
• Contingencies for more restrictive phases due to changes in epidemiological data
The Ventura County Public Health Guiding Principles and Communication for School Districts states that “plans should not require universal testing of students and staff prior to reopening of schools”.

The reopening of schools this Fall 2020 will include changes to multiple aspects of our schools including how we enter the grounds, limited movement within the campus, 6 feet of spacing between all individuals in a classroom resulting in smaller class sizes of 10-12 students, and other actions to ensure adherence with VCPH guidelines. In addition, we will need to ensure the following as part of our reopening plan:

*Masks: Fillmore Unified will expect students/staff to follow the most current guidelines from VCPH, California Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control regarding the use of masks.

*Passive Screening: Students and staff will need to screen before leaving for school (ensure temperatures below 99.5 Fahrenheit by the no-touch temporal or forehead method or 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit orally and observe for symptoms outlined by public health officials). (ref. Ventura County Public Health Guiding Principles and Communication for School Districts)

* Active Screening: Schools and all district facilities will engage in symptom screening as students and staff enter campus and buses, consistent with public health guidance, which includes visual wellness checks and temperature checks with no-touch thermometers. (ref. Ventura County Public Health Guiding Principles and Communication for School Districts)

Thank you for completing this survey and providing us with information on how we can provide the best service, support, and instruction for our students.

Subject: Fall Sports Announcement

Dear Fillmore High School Students and Families,

We know these are extraordingily challenging times for all of us and hope that you and your loved ones are safe.

The Fillmore Unified School District and Fillmore High School staff are working together on a plan to provide for the start of conditioning for fall sports (Cross Country, Football, Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball, and Boys Water Polo). The health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. To ensure the greatest level of safety for our students and coaches, the plan will include recommendations from Ventura County Public Health (VCPH) experts and the California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) on conducting Conditioning and Skill Building Training during the COVID 19 Pandemic. The plan will be very prescriptive, and all guidelines will be monitored to ensure proper implementation. We hope to share the specifics of the plan after July 6th.

In the meantime, all incoming and current student athletes should complete the required clearance paperwork and schedule an appointment for their physical with their own family physician. The Fillmore High School website has the necessary information to help get the clearance process completed. On the website, parents and students can access the CIF physical form, the athletic clearance instructions, and other important information for the 2020-21 school year.

At this time student athletes and parents are encouraged to visit the website, schedule a physical for their student athlete, and register for sports online for the upcoming year. Also, student athletes should contact the coach of the fall sport they are interested in to establish communication with the coach. This will allow the coaches to send information to the athletes about their summer plans.

Update from Fillmore Unified School District and Ventura County Public Health

fillmore-unified-school-district-b.png

Date: Friday, June 26, 2020

Subject: Information from Fillmore USD and Ventura County Public Health

The Fillmore Unified School District will be providing a weekly update to district families regarding actions to prepare for reopening of schools each Wednesday. On Wednesday, July 1, 2020 all district families will be provided with access to a survey regarding the reopening of schools. We invite all district families to complete the survey by no later than Monday, July 6, 2020.

We are working in close partnership with Ventura County Public Health and are sharing the following message prepared for our community.

The following is a message from Ventura County Public Health

As Ventura County and Fillmore start to open up more businesses, the need for continued vigilance is more important than ever. Even though more businesses are open, this does not mean that you are no longer at risk for COVID-19. Ventura County Public Health is concerned that Fillmore continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases and wants to ensure that all Fillmore residents have the information they need to prevent COVID-19infection.

Here are some basic things that you can do to reduce your risk and the risk for others of infection.
1) Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
2) Don't touch your nose, mouth or eyes and teach your children to do the same.
3) Maintain 6 ft. distance from others when in public areas.
4) Use face coverings when leaving your home and going out into public areas. This is State mandated.

If you think you have COVID-'19 or have been exposed to someone with it, get tested for free. There are various locations throughout the county. Please go to venturacountyrecovers.org for all COVID-19 related information for Ventura County.

Thank you for your time and, above all else, please stay safe.

FUSD-Flashes-09-29-18.jpg

Good evening FHS Parents,

The Fillmore High School Athletic Department would like to inform you of the changes to the athletic clearance process for the 2020-21 school year. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, we are unable to provide FHS student athletes with a clearance opportunity at Fillmore High School. All returning and incoming athletes will need to schedule an appointment for their physical with their own family physician.

We would like our athletes to be prepared to practice, in the event the Ventura County Health Department allows us to resume high school sports.

We encourage you to please plan ahead. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the Fillmore High School Athletic Director, Kimberly Tafoya through email at ktafoya@fillmoreusdorg.

Announcement Regarding Recognition for the Class of 2020 (English/Spanish)

May 12, 2020

The purpose of this message is to inform you of current actions to ensure that we recognize and celebrate the graduating seniors of Fillmore High School, Sierra High School, and Heritage Valley Independent Study.

The Fillmore Unified School District Governing Board is committed to supporting an in-person graduation ceremony for our graduating seniors once we have received authorization from public health officials to hold gatherings. We do not have any information as to when the public health orders will change and will inform the community once an update has been received.

However, I am pleased to share with our district community that our district and high school leadership have identified a unique way of recognizing our graduating seniors while also adhering to the current recommendations from public health. A vehicle procession will take place in the coming weeks to provide an opportunity for our faculty and staff to recognize the Class of 2020. Principals John Wilber and Pablo Leanos will be providing information to our graduating seniors and their families about the procession. The procession will not be open to the public and staff are researching the ability to provide a live stream of the event.

We know that these are extraordinarily challenging times for all of us and hope that you and your loved ones are safe. Thank you for your continued support.

Fillmore Unified School Bus Drivers Miss Their Students

IMG_66901.jpg

Our lives have been turned upside down yet we are hopeful to get back in that drivers seat and be with our students. We long for the “How was your day?”, “Can I open a window?”, “Wanna buy a raffle ticket?”, “I have a game tonight, can you come watch me play?” The smiles, the sweaty faces of the 6th period PE students racing to be one of the first students on the bus, the art work for moms, the “I got an A on my project.”, the high fives. Life is not the same and may never get back to “normal”, yet we are hopeful. We miss our students immensely and look forward to being able to see them again. Fillmore Unified School Bus Drivers miss our Students and hope you all are doing well. ❤️🚌
