Distance Learning Opportunities

index.jpg

Dear Fillmore High School Students and Families,

We understand that these are very trying times, and we hope that everyone is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. The past few days Fillmore High School teachers and staff have been working to prepare distance learning opportunities for all Fillmore High School students. The purpose of these assignments is for students to review and/or practice previous learning. Although this work will not be submitted at this time, students are encouraged to hold onto all completed work until further notice. Although this work will not be graded, it is important that students complete as much work as possible to prepare for our hopeful return to school on May 4th.

There are two ways to access distance learning opportunities. 1. Access through the Fillmore High School website. Simply go to the Fillmore High School website and then go to the “Distance Learning Opportunities” tab. Or use this link: Distance Learning. Once inside the distance learning tab, you will find the activities for each class that you have. We encourage students to access this method if possible. 2. For students unable to access “Distance Learning Opportunities” online: you may come to the front of Fillmore High School Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 am – 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to pick up hard copies of the work.

We will be enforcing strict social distancing protocols for students who come to pick up work, and students will not be allowed on campus; all pickups will be in the front of the school. If you or anyone in your family is ill, please do not come on site. Your health and the health of others is our priority.

Attention AP Students- please check your email and contact your AP Teachers by email.

Again, we understand that these are very trying times and we hope that everyone is healthy and safe.
Sincerely,

John Wilber
Principal, Fillmore High school

All Fillmore Unified School District Schools & Offices CLOSED through Friday, May, 1st 2020

March 18, 2020

Fillmore USD Families

The purpose of this message is to provide Fillmore Unified School District families with an update for March 18, 2020 regarding district actions to address COVID-19.

Today our Board of Trustees directed the closure of all Fillmore Unified schools and offices through Friday, May 1, 2020. All district and school events, meetings, activities, athletic practices, and athletic competitions have been cancelled thru May 1, 2020.

This closure is in support of the recommendations from public health officials to encourage “social distancing” to slow the spread of the virus. It is strongly recommended that individuals stay home during the closure as much as possible, and do not gather in public places.

A decision to reopen schools will be made in close consultation with the State of California, Ventura County Public Health, and the Ventura County Office of Education. We hope to reopen on Monday, May 4, 2020, but that decision will depend on the circumstances at the time. District families will be provided with notice prior to May 4, 2020.

We are aware that this closure has resulted in a loss of time spent learning in the classroom and are working to create educational opportunities for students while schools are closed. It is our intent to provide an update to families during the week of March 23rd regarding the district approach to distance learning.

We understand that school closures have significant impacts on our students and families, and we hope to resume normal operations in the future. Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time.

Respectfully,
Adrian E. Palazuelos, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Fillmore Unified School District

Isabella Palazuelos recognized as a National Merit Scholar

IMG_2978.jpg

Fillmore High School is proud to announce that senior student Isabella Palazuelos has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar.

The National Merit Scholar Program annually recognizes 16,000 students out of 1.6 million eligible students nationwide as semifinalists based on student performance for the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude exam. Of those 16,000 students, only 15,000 are selected to receive a Certificate of Merit as a finalist. Finally, only 7,500 students out of the 15,000 finalists are granted scholarships that may include full college tuition. Miss Palazuelos was presented a Certificate of Merit from her high school principal on February 5, 2020 at Fillmore High School. Fillmore High School has not had a National Merit Scholar in recent memory.

Miss Palazuelos has applied to several prestigious universities, both in and out of California, and is expecting to receive notification of acceptance this spring. Isabella Palazuelos is a well-rounded student as she participates in several activities at Fillmore High School, which include: the Advanced Placement program; a medalist as part of the award winning 2020 Fillmore High School Academic Decathlon team; a three sport athlete (volleyball, water polo and swimming); the leader of the Fillmore High School Mock Trial team; Band and Jazz Ensemble; the Interact Club; MEChA; the Chess Club; and the Mentor Program.

Isabella is the daughter of Adrian and Julie Palazuelos and has three siblings in the Fillmore Unified School District: Olivia, grade 11; Nadia, grade 7; and Adrian Junior, Transitional Kindergarten.

Our sincere congratulations go out to Isabella Palazuelos!
