We are excited to announce that during last night’s School Board meeting, Dr. Isaac Huang was appointed as the Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities. Dr. Huang has been charged with leading the district in developing innovative programs and expanded learning opportunities for all students in our district.
Dr. Huang has extensive experience in meeting the academic, social emotional, and physical well being of the whole child for the past 20 years. His passion and work in the field of education has spanned the entire continuum- ranging from pre-school to adult learners.
Dr. Huang is a firm believer in growth mindsets and building a culture of active learners rather than passive students. In addition to this, he is focused on equity and diversity and recently completed his term on the Conejo Valley Unified School District’s Inaugural Equity Task Force. Dr. Huang dedicates his free time serving others through his work on the CALSA (California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators) Mentoring Committee and is President of CAAPLE (California Association of Asian Pacific Leaders in Education).
Dr. Huang holds a Doctor of Education degree from USC, a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration from California State University Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from California State University Northridge.
He started his career teaching preschool aged children before becoming an elementary school teacher and then TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) focused on curriculum and second language acquisition. Dr. Huang has also spent time teaching at Rose City Continuation High School in Pasadena and post secondary candidates in the MAT Program at the University of Southern California as an Adjunct Professor.
As a school administrator, Dr. Huang has served as assistant principal at both the elementary and middle school levels. Most recently, he has served as the principal and lead learner at Madrona Elementary in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Through his work, Dr. Huang was recognized by CALSA as the 2021 Statewide Site Administrator of the Year for his continued work in building a community that fosters innovative and equitable learning opportunities to learners that they serve.
We welcome Dr. Huang to FUSD and look forward to having him transition in the very near future.
