College of the Week: Whitman College

Whitman College is a private institution that was founded in 1883. Campus activities are a big part of student life at Whitman College, a liberal arts institution in the rural small town of Walla Walla, Washington. Students come out in droves for intramural sports - about 70 percent compete on some team - and Greek life. Though the school only has a handful of sororities and fraternities, about a third of the student body is involved in the Greek system. About 20 percent of students compete on the Whit varsity sports teams, all members of the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference.

Starting in the gym at 5:30-6:00pm is our Furture Flashes Football gathering. Learn about our football program and meet our coaches. Following the Future Flashes Football gathering find out about all of our athletic programs and meet our coaches.

Starting at 5:30pm Sespe Creek Events will have a car show in front of our beautiful auto shop.

Visual and Performing Arts will be have performancaes throughout the night starting at 5:45pm.

Meet all of our teachers and departments in the library from 6:00-7:00pm.

Food trucks will be on-site for your enjoyment.

Please save the date and come by the high school to enjoy a night of celebration.

College of the Week: Wabash College

Wabash College is a private institution that was founded in 1832. It is one of three remaining all-men's liberal arts colleges in the country. This is one of its biggest selling points, as the college insists this aspect of the school promotes intense focus on academics. At the college, nearly 40 percent of the student body competes in varsity sports, and more than 80 percent participates in intramural or club sports. Known as the Little Giants, Wabash is a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division III.

Fillmore Unified School District to Honor the School Lunch Heroes Serving Healthy Meals

Celebrating School Lunch Hero Day on May 5, 2023

Between preparing delicious food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, Fillmore Unified School District nutrition professionals make healthy meals. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, Fillmore Unified School District schools will celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 5. This day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million of America’s students each school day.

College of the week: Ursinus College

Ursinus College is a small, private school located about 25 miles from Philadelphia in the appropriately named town of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Students can choose from more than 60 majors to study, including applied economics, politics and wellness education. Freshmen at UC must enroll in the Common Intellectual Experience seminars, which bring students together in small groups to discuss their beliefs and philosophies. Outside the classroom, UC students can get involved in more than 100 organizations, Greek life and community service through the Ursinus Center for Advocacy, Responsibility and Engagement.

Deputy John Schnereger Promoted to Senior Deputy

After 12 years of service, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy John Schnereger has been promoted to Senior Deputy and will no longer serve the Fillmore Unified School District as a School Resource Officer.

Deputy Schnereger has a diverse background through his education, military, and law enforcement experience. Deputy Schnereger has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies – both with an emphasis in archaeology from the University of Southern California, and has a Masters of Arts degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma.

After graduating from college, Deputy Schnereger served six years in the military before starting his career with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. He has worked assignments in the jail, Ojai, Moorpark, and Headquarters stations.

Deputy Schnereger said, “I’ve enjoyed my time over the past 2 years working with Fillmore Unified School District staff and students and appreciate the opportunity to impact student lives. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to use my passion for mentoring and developing youth throughout my career and will continue my work with the Boys & Girls Club and R.M. Pyles Boys Camp.”

College of the Week: Williamette University

Willamette University is a private institution that was founded in 1842. Located in Oregon’s state capital, Salem, Willamette University carries the distinction of being the oldest university in the Western United States. The 69-acre campus is located directly across from the Oregon State Capitol and is less than an hour from Portland.
