Principal Garnica's 2024-25 School Year Welcome Letter [English/Spanish]
Dear Rio Vista Families,
Welcome back! A new school year always brings excitement and is full of wonderful possibilities. I am so happy to be back with you and share in the educational journey of your children. At Rio Vista, our mission is Learning for All. Our vision is that our school will be a place where students learn at high levels while feeling safe, respected, and valued. We love our Roadrunners, and we appreciate our supportive families.
We have been busy this summer preparing for the new school year. We have had a few staffing changes. I’d like to welcome Ms. Jolena Pacheco, who will be teaching fifth grade this year. Ms. Pacheco is taking the place of Mrs. Becky Goldner, who will now be teaching Reading Intervention. Mrs. Amber Moise has moved from being a third-grade teacher, to teaching 5th grade, and Mrs. Shelia DeMeritt is teaching a combination 4th/5th grade class. Mrs. Robin Collins retired in June, and we are in the process of hiring her replacement. Mrs. Amber Graham has moved from teaching Kinder to teaching TK with Ms. Lamberson. Our counselor, Mrs. Ibarra, will continue to provide our students with support for their social emotional needs, and our amazing office staff is ready to help families and Roadrunners alike.
Safety is important, and we ask that you carefully read and follow the procedures for drop-off and pick-up of students. Please also take note of our information regarding how to communicate with the school staff, and our information regarding bullying. Our goal is to work as a team with you to ensure that your child has a safe, rewarding, educational experience at Rio Vista.
At Rio Vista, we emphasize kindness, and ask that all adults treat staff and families with respect, as our kids are always watching. Parents will be allowed to walk students to class for the first two days of school. After that, we ask that you leave your student at the gate/door.
Families are always welcome at Rio Vista, and I encourage you to get involved with our Parent Club or spend time volunteering in the classroom. Make sure you sign up for Parent Square, if you haven’t already, to receive important information from school. If you need any help with this, just contact the front office. Please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the year if you ever have a concern or would just like to have a conversation. You can also usually find me at the front gate in the morning, and after school in the parking lot, or send an email, or give me a call. I am looking forward to a terrific year with our Roadrunners!
Sincerely,
Beverly Garnica
Principal, Rio Vista Elementary
Estimadas familias de Rio Vista,
¡Bienvenido!
Sinceramente,
Beverly Garnica
Directora, Escuela Primaria Rio Vista

Rapid Response Training at Rio Vista Elementary Saturday June 15, 2024
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Ventura County Fire Department, the Fillmore Fire Department, and the Fillmore Unified School District, will host First Responder Rapid Response Training at Rio Vista Elementary School on June 15, 2024.
As our community’s first responders, we are expected to maintain a high-level of competency and proficiency while responding to community needs. We are often called upon to assist with situations that are inherently dangerous and consist of numerous high-risk variables and multi-faceted complexities. The response to an active killer / mass casualty event is a task we have previously been required to handle and we are dedicated to remaining ready should we be called again in the future.
The rapid response training is designed to increase first responder readiness to address active killer and mass casualty events. Utilizing a concepts-based approach to learning, the intent of the training is designed to prompt synergistic thinking and allow first responders to acquire and process facts and skills through the conceptual level of thinking. The training emphasizes a systematic approach to problem solving where participants are trained to integrate and manage a multi-discipline response to a full range of active killer scenarios. Participants will be evaluated on their ability to expeditiously neutralize the threat, provide time-sensitive medical care, and facilitate the transportation of victims to the hospital.
Residents in the area of Rio Vista elementary School on June 15, 2024, may hear commotion coming from the training site, including simulated gunfire. The training site will be visibly marked with “Police Training in Progress” signs and other markings to designate the site as a training area.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank members of the public, and our partner agencies, for their on-going support in ensuring Ventura County first responders receive leading edge training to address community concerns. We are better at what we do because of our community partnerships. Join us in the fight on crime by following us on Twitter @fillmoresheriff, Facebook, Instagram @VCSHERIFF, and with Nixle by texting your zip code to 888777 to receive local law enforcement and public safety alerts and advisories.
