7:45 PM January 22, 2025 Update. Piru School Update

Dear Piru Families,
I hope this message finds you safe and well during this stressful time. Piru Elementary School will be closed on Thursday, January 23. However, all other Fillmore Unified Schools will remain open.

We understand that the needs of our families vary, and some have reached out asking if there will be bus transportation into Fillmore tomorrow. For those families who live in the Piru Community and wish to send their children to Fillmore Middle School, Fillmore High School, and Sierra High School, bus transportation will be provided through regular routes. In the event that the evacuation warning becomes an evacuation order, students will remain at their school site until parents/guardians can pick them up.

We recognize that each family will make the best decision for their child. If your child in middle or high school will be absent from school on Thursday, we ask that you please notify the school by phone, email, or Parent Square. Students residing in the Piru community will not be penalized for absences tomorrow, January 23.

Please know that we are closely monitoring the situation and staying in communication with local emergency services, including Fire and Law Enforcement. We will provide further updates as we continue to monitor the fire.

Thank you for your trust and support as we continue to work together.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle, Superintendent

Dear FUSD Staff and Families,
As we continue to experience high winds and precautionary power outages, the Fillmore Unified School District is prepared to keep all schools open.

The safety of our students and staff remains our priority and we are prepared to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all members of our school community. The following measures will be implemented in the event we experience power outages.

* Generators will be deployed to schools to operate school offices for communication purposes.

* Each school will have one dedicated phone line. See phone numbers below.

* The Child Nutrition Services Department will serve all students breakfast and lunch.

* Site custodians and the Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation staff will monitor all school grounds throughout the day and each morning before school begins.

* Air quality will be monitored, and outdoor activities will be adjusted, as necessary.

* Battery-operated lights will be distributed to areas where additional light is needed.

As of now, all schools, except for Piru School have power.

All schools will be open tomorrow, and attendance will be counted at all schools with power. This includes Fillmore High School, Sierra High School, Heritage Valley Independent Study, Fillmore Middle School, Mountain Vista School, San Cayetano, and Rio Vista School. We understand that each family will make the best decision for their child. If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school by phone, email, or Parent Square.

Wednesday January 8, 2025 Update - SCHOOLS REMAIN OPEN

Dear FUSD Families,
First, I would like to acknowledge and thank our amazing staff for working together to provide a safe learning environment for our students.

In times of uncertainty, being able to “go to school” can provide students with a sense of security and routine. The decision to keep schools open affirms our commitment to our students. We also know that many of our families will need to continue to work even during power outages. For these reasons, we will continue to keep our schools open this week. We do anticipate the precautionary power outages through Friday and will continue to work to address any concerns.

Tomorrow, we will continue to offer breakfast and lunch to students and our dedicated phone lines will be operational. The ASES after school program will close early tomorrow and we ask that families pick up students no later than 5:00 p.m.

We realize that each family will make the decision on whether or not to send their child to school tomorrow. Therefore, there will be no attendance penalty for absences tomorrow.

Thank you again and have a safe evening.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle
Superintendent

We look forward to welcoming our students back tomorrow, January 8th.

All schools and offices in the Fillmore Unified School District plan to remain open.

District staff will check all school sites early in the morning to ensure campuses are prepared before students arrive and all campuses will be monitored throughout the school day. Schools will implement safety measures as needed during outdoor activities.

If any schools are affected by outages, families will receive a notice through Parent Square.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle
